Why the #USArmy is acquiring 1,000 #Switchblade600 loitering munition ?
Over the next year, the U.S. Army will deploy more than 1,000 Switchblade 600 drones as part of Replicator, the Pentagon's initiative to field thousands of uncrewed systems.
The quantity was disclosed by Gen. James Mingus, the Army’s vice chief of staff, during a June 21 House Appropriations defense subcommittee hearing at the Defense Innovation Unit's headquarters in Mountain View, Calif.
The Switchblade 600, is among the few systems the Defense Department plans to purchase in the first phase of the Replicator program. It is the only system named so far. Other planned acquisitions include an unspecified fleet of maritime drones through a DIU solicitation, a collection of uncrewed surface vehicles, and counter-drone systems.

The United States appears to be working on a strategy to stop any Chinese attempt to overtake Taiwan. The plan is straightforward -if mainland China invades Taiwan, it could face a powerful unmanned force intended to overwhelm its military and buy time. This strategy, known as the "Hellscape" strategy, was articulated by the senior US admiral in the Pacific. Admiral Samuel Paparo, the commander...

    FFS, the real reason it has very little influence on the battlefield is that the corrupt, oligarch run Russian military procurement system has cranked out 23 of these. Contrast that to over 11,000 Bradley Fighting Vehicles. Russia is a fricking joke, unfortunately their soldiers, untrained as they are, pay the price. Russian farmers shine their shoes with sh!t and put Shinola on their wheat fields!

    they really need to get the cost of these drone units under control, we need 50,000 of them at low cost per unit.. not 2,000 a year at 80k each 💰💸

      @paulbedichek5177 2 години тому

      $80K is fine,as long as it's 10,000 for Ukraine ,right away. Turns out theJavelin is a great bargain as it wreaks havoc with the Russians. Switchblades have been deployed in Ukraine, it did well, but that is where we get the best return for our money.

    1000 drones that cost $52k with a production of 6000/year versus Ukraine style drones that cost $500/ea and making 150,000/month [2 million a year]. China which makes the motors, video, the electronics and batteries are obviously also way ahead in manufacturing to keep up with demand, also a problem. Drone AI is in testing phase, which will make them less prone to EW, making them more effective. Lessons are not being learned yet in the US.

  • @FroggyTWrite

      The simple fact is that Ukrainian forces dont have the time to train their personnel how to effectively use them Secondly the US military uses the Joint Battle Command-Platform (JBC-P) which connects all forces on the battefield allowing them to get real time info on enemy movements again Ukraine lacks that Ukraine uses FPV because they can hunt for Russian targets and if they dont find any, the drone comes back ,Switchblade are not reusable The US military can use them more effectivelly
